Dental Trauma Epidemiology in Primary Dentition: A Cross-Sectional Retrospective Study

Our aim was to investigate the epidemiology of dental trauma (DT) injuries in primary teeth, a health hazard issue that is often neglected by public care system. The records 298 children who attended Unit Dental Care for Special Needs Patients and Pediatric Dentistry, University Bologna, Italy had suffered DT between January 2011 December 2021 were examined assess age, gender, cause place DT, type lesion teeth involved. chi-squared test used compare categorical variables. A total 265 (89%) single trauma, 33 (11%) from repeated DT. 511 (mean 1.7 ± 0.5) experienced trauma. Most occurred 2–3 years range (153 30%). most affected upper central incisors (n = 388; 76%). involved periodontal tissue 316 (62%) hard 262 cases (51%). commonly caused accidental falls at home, occurs frequently toddlers’ incisors, usually affects tooth-supporting structures. Clinicians should be aware frequent updated concerning treatment guidelines.
